My kids love biscuits – I mean thats a given. I tend to not buy shop bought cookies as they taste sweet, full of hydrogenated fats and with little flavour, I am a food snob, I am definitely a biscuit snob. Shop biscuits I love:

Borders Dark chocolate ginger biscuits

Those soft bakery supermarket cookies

McVities digestive biscuits

Milk chocolate Tunnock tea cakes

Forget, the rest of the biscuit aisle – I am in no way interested, I would much rather Supermarket Sweep the crisp and snack section.

I digress – Poppy loves to bake, recipes have to be quick and easy.

Cooking with Pops has to be things she wants to eat. She’s pretty good at following instructions and as long as there is a bowl or spoon to be licked at the end we are all good.

My flick biscuits are really buttery, shortbready and so simple to bake, kids love decorating them. The nice thing is that you can make any shape you like, which is perfect for little ones. I call them “flick biscuits” as its easy to flick chocolate over the top of them and they still look cool. You can flick anything, icing sugar, of any colour, white chocolate if you want to go posh! If you want to go the whole hog chuck some sprinkles on them, hundreds and thousands or those little silver balls which people used to put on top of trifles in the 1980s!

250g butter

110g /caster sugar,

360g plain flour

75g melted chocolate for decorating

Heat the oven to 190C

Beat the butter and the sugar together

Stir in the flour until smooth.

roll the dough until 1cm thick.

Cut into any shapes you desire, place in a baking tray.

Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes, or until pale golden-brown.

Place to cool on a wire rack.

Once cool use the melted chocolate to flick evenly or if a child whichever way they choose! There is great spoon licking potential at the end too!

Wait until chocolate has hardened before eating.
