Hi. My name is Kristina and this is the start of my new blog. It’s another food blog, yeah, but my selling point is that I concentrate on simplicity, flavour and feeding the family.

I love reading all sorts of food blogs but, though I am a bit
snobby about the ingredients I cook with, I’m not snobby about which shops I buy them from.

I am pretty “normal” in my approach to cooking – I don’t do “clean eating” or “quitting sugar” but I do try to give a well rounded mix of food to my kidlets which is why you won’t find many fancy shmancy things going on here.

My eldest (Charlie) will eat everything apart from avocados, courgettes, mushrooms and lemons – in his words “They make me sick”. He is keen to try anything
though, so I always tell him it’s ok to dislike certain foods when you eat 90 percent of
the things given to you – which he does.

Most of the ideas you’ll see on here Charlie will eat for sure but Poppy, his five-year-old sister, is a lot more
reluctant. To be fair, she always tries new foods but is not
as open to unfamiliar tastes as her brother.

While we’re taking time out for this subject … her likes and dislikes really do frustrate me. Do YOUR kids preferences make sense? I simply don’t get why she won’t touch some things which are really lovely comfort foods like mashed potatoes, roast potatoes or lasagne. Why is that? She does like cucumber and olives though.

Actually, we are going through a bit of a phase with her – she is being a typical “naughty little sister”. She has a sixth
sense for locating any kind of confectionary and, even if its well hidden at
the back of a cupboard or disguised amongst bags of dried pasta, she
still seems to find it.

We are only aware something untoward is going on when it becomes quiet for more
than five minutes. At this point its very probable she’s sitting under
her cabin bed surrounded by wrappers, hands covered in a sticky mess and her face coated
in chocolate.

A few friends of mine say the key to doing a successful food
blog is to “keep it real”, make my recipes accessible and get across
my passion for really tasty flavoursome nosh. One of my besties also
suggested I document the stuff that doesn’t work, representing the
realities of cooking and not the Instagram dream. I guess I will do
that too as I think it could be cool seeing a burnt, flat old
sponge cake photographed against a nice background – let’s see.

I started gathering recipes together for this blog a month ago. In the beginning, most of my pictures were just taken using lighting and with my iPhone
6s plus. However, it was my birthday the other day and my husband got
me an amazing Nikon DSLR camera which I am loving. I am sure you will be able
to spot the difference in photo quality straight away as you click or swipe your way through these pages.

Enough of this. It’s a freezing – and I mean freezing – January morning
outside (yes, and inside too) and I am going to make some Chicken leftover soup for lunch.

Please do get in touch with your ideas or if you have liked anything I
have made. Also do share my blog, it’s always nice when you are
starting out to know somebody is reading your
stuff.
